Independent Correspondent | Dhaka 17 July:
Following violent unrest in Gopalganj, former Prime Minister and Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina released an audio message that has stirred political debate across Bangladesh. In her message, Hasina said, “Take to the streets with what you have.” The statement is being widely interpreted as a call to her supporters to mobilize despite current constraints.
In the aftermath of the Gopalganj clashes, Bangladeshi police have already arrested 25 individuals in connection with the violence and vandalism.
Meanwhile, the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, has formed a three-member investigation committee to probe the incident and submit a detailed report on the causes and responsible parties.
Political analysts suggest that Hasina’s message is a clear signal to Awami League cadres and sympathizers to prepare for action, even without full organizational strength or state power. The formation of the probe committee, on the other hand, indicates the interim administration’s effort to maintain transparency and control.
With the country on edge and political tension rising, Gopalganj has once again become the epicenter of Bangladesh’s complex power dynamics.
